Day 4

This post is a little late because we have been dead tired running around! Pretty much crash the second we're back in the room.

We started the day heading to Akihabara. They close down the main road on Sundays so that everyone can walk down the main drag. We saw a table with a bunch of people playing some kind of card game (Yu-gio maybe?) and then a promotion for Mario Builder where they had a huge kiosk set up and people playing the game. It actually looks pretty cool (basically you can build your own Mario levels).

Dave got some toys and we had more fun with the Gauchapon machines. Then we went to a maid cafe for lunch. It was a little odd to say the least. They talk in cutesy little voices and do weird chants over the food. I had them sing Happy Birthday to Dave. One of the maids also got up on the stage to perform, where we did a weird little dance. Dave said that he felt like a creepy old guy the whole time. I'm glad that we did it, but probably wouldn't go again!!!

After the maid cafe, we headed to Harajuku, which is supposed to be crazy on Sundays. Wow - there were so many people there, even though it was a little later by then (maybe 4:30ish). There were a few people dressed funky, but otherwise nothing too unusual. There were cute little stores all over the place and poor Munchie might have gotten a new Halloween costume. We also tried out the crepes since they're known for them. They were delicious!

We headed back to the hotel prior to Robot Restaurant because we had had enough. I showered (we've been showering a ton because it's so humid and air conditioning is sporadic) and then headed to Shinjuku for Robot Restaurant. The area itself was crazy. People all over the place, neon everywhere. We also saw the Godzilla hotel and Dave got a picture on our other camera. This is supposed to be the "Red-light" district, but there were just a lot of tourists and everyone else. We made it to the Robot Restaurant (which isn't really much of a restaurant) and went to their waiting room prior to the concert. Gaudy can't even explain what was going on. We'll post pictures later. Once it was time for the performance, we went down a few gaudy staircases and got into the room which was just a large aisle with sets of two rows on both sides. Our seat was in the second row toward the area where the performers came out, so they were good seats. Not sure that you could have a bad seat though. Before they started, they showed everyone in the front row that they'd need to lean back sometimes if one of the robots were too big. Everyone in there from what we could tell was a tourist and they spoke a lot of English.

The performance began and there were essentially 3 sets, all with about 7-10 minutes in between. Even though the performance was only a bit over an hour, they had signs about when you could or could not get out of your seat to go to the bathroom. They are very considerate of your bladder over here! At one point they even chained us in to the row. Words can not really even explain what we saw. Each set would end and we'd look at each other and say "what the heck just happened?". Seriously - no clue! We will post pics/videos later. Johnny Knoxville from Jackass was also in the audience, so Dave got a picture with him later.

Then we went back to the hotel and collapsed!!!
