We made it to Tokyo! After a 12+ hour flight, we got here a little before 2 pm. Dave watched a ton of action movies and I watched a few chick flicks on the way there. We also have the flatbed, so I was able to get some sleep, which was great because I get bad jet lag. They kept feeding us on the plane, although Dave and I both got beef for the main dinner and it was like shoe leather. Yuck.
After a pretty bumpy landing (lots of turbulence) we bought our train passes and also had our luggage sent ahead to our hotel for tomorrow The logo for the company is really cute - a cat carrying another cat. Then got on the train for an ~1 hour ride to our hotel. Japan's vegetation looks the same as in Michigan, although it seemed tropical because it was so humid. We were drying, but everyone was wearing long sleeves. Dave played his first vending machine roulette with Match Pink, which he claimed did indeed taste pink. Then we got to our hotel for our amazing koala room. They wound up giving us the pink version instead of the brown - Dave was thrilled.
We then walked around a little and had enough time to check out Akihabara a little (Japan's area for comic book and video game nerds). We didn't see too much as things weren't open that much later. We were starving and somehow wound up finding a German restaurant in Japan (not intentional). We didn't realize until after we got there, so Dave had one of the lousiest birthday dinners of all time! They were playing awful German beer garden music. We left just as they were playing the circus theme song. Now we're back and had some showers (so nice!) and Dave is looking for Japanese game shows on TV. Then we're crashing for an early start tomorrow to go to Fuji Safari Park.
